Random Post #5: The Tale of the Devastator

So we are going to pretend that there wasn't a 5 month absence of blogging.

So good news! I'm building my own computer. Actually, technically, I already built it. Rocking an FX-6300 processor, an Asus R9 290, and equipped with 8GB of RAM, this thing is a gaming beast. And the name: D3VASTATOR.
Or as it appears in my imaginary tax write-off: DEVESTATOR 3.0

The question arises, where are the other revisions of the Devastator? Well, grab some popcorn kiddies, cause it's story time!

So, the very first computer I owned was a sucky Acer Aspire craptop. GMA graphics, Pentium single core processor, 3 GB of RAM. Despite those limitations, I played the original Bioshock and Portal on it. Great memories. Later, this laptop would be given the name "DEVESTATOR Mini" as it was really a smaller version of the real DEVESTATOR, which came only a couple years later. The original DEVESTATOR was a prebuilt Dell Inspiron. Pentium Dual-Core, GMA Graphics, 6GB of DDR2 RAM. So basically it had the power of two DEVESTATOR Minis put in one. However, I loved the thing. Played all sorts of old games on it. COD4, Portal, Peggle, Plants vs Zombies, Postal, Star Wars Battlefront II, Halo.Great experience. So I had this all the way up till around 2 years ago. I started really getting into Computer hardware. And I realized that I could be playing all my favorite console games, on my PC. All I had to do was upgrade. So, I bought a motherboard, CPU, and graphics card and had someone modify the Inspiron case to hold ATX parts, including a new PSU. This cost about $500 total, including servicing fees. When it was complete, the DEVESTATOR 2.0 was born. Equipped with an FX-4100 processor, a Sapphire 7790 GFX Card, and 8GB of RAM, this thing was truly a masterpiece. So at this time I was playing my favorite games on high/ultra. Call of Duty Black Ops II, Ghost Recon Phantoms, Portal 2, Assassin's Creed III, StarCraft II, Borderlands 2, Skyrim. Man, the fun I was having on that thing. Until one day, early this year, an unfortunate overvoltage accident fried everything in the case. PSU, Mobo, RAM, GPU and CPU, gone in the blink of an eye. I was devastated. But not defeated. For I had saved the original parts from the old DEVESTATOR 1.0. So I plopped those back in, and realized how terrible it was. Couldn't even run Fallout New Vegas without lagging to hell. This is April of this year. I know I can't run a YouTube channel over the summer with this POS. But I was a little short on money since I had just invested it all on a capture card, mic, and a bunch of games to cover for my channel. So buying a new one or building a new one was out of the question at the time. So I decided just to upgrade the 1.0 as best I could. First, tossed the old Pentium Dual-Core (literally gave it to a friend as a gag gift). Put in a Core 2 Duo E8400 in its place. Not the best in the socket, but for only $60 it gave me a whopping performance boost. Next, I needed a GPU, GMA wasn't going to cut it anymore. But with a weak OEM 400w with no PCIE connectors, my options were looking non-existent. Then Nvidia released the GTX 750 and my prayers were answered. Picked one up for $120 and popped that in. Boom! All the way up until now, that was my PC. The DEVESTATOR 1.2, locked and loaded. According to Game-Debate, my go-to source for anything PC gaming related, the system should handle most modern games on medium-high, with the processor being the only bottleneck. And I'd say that's pretty accurate. Any optimized game released to this point runs pretty well. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Titanfall, Assassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4 and Shadow of Mordor run great medium to high at 1080p. But nothing too demanding or unoptimized. But PC was my secondary platform; anything I couldn't run on it I could easily get for Xbox. So I had my sights set on an Xbox One for the holiday season, and was saving up for that until August of this year; when I was converted to the Master Race by /r/pcmasterrace. I pretty much accepted PC as the best gaming platform. But in order to truly ascend, I needed a new rig. So I kept saving up, but this time not for an Xbox One, but for a gaming PC.

Which brings us to now. The D3VESTATOR is the third evolution in a line of PCs that I've owned. It's the most powerful, the most badass, and the most personal. Built from the ground up to deliver me a solid 60fps at 1080p. Suck on that, consoles.

Still Pwning.

Finally, it's here. Took a while, made some changes, and didn't come out like I expected it too (not necessarily worse, just not what I expected). But it's here at least.

Shoutout to MrCodeBeast who beasted up the last portion of the rap.

I like these. Maybe if it gets enough views (let's say, 1500) I'll make another one. This time about GTA V.

Also, E3 was awesome. Highlight was the Halo MC Collection.

Thought since my blog was about gaming, I had to mention something about E3.
Oh, also, I'm partnered.

That's all this time.

Random Blog Post #4: Pr0gW0es

I'm a programmer if you guy's didn't know, and at this moment I know several different languages. The basic ones, like VB.Net and F#, and some advanced ones, like C# and Python. At this moment, I trying to pick up two different languages at the same time; Java and C++.

Anywho, the point is, when you know all these languages, most people have no problem switching back and forth between several different ones. But, I kinda learned all of them in quick succession, so I guess I haven't developed that switching skill...

I'll be coding in VB and all of the sudden start putting braces in my ending syntax, or in C++ and finish coding with an "End Class" function.

Anyways, programming joke!

Random Post #3: More of the same.

So. That Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Trailer though.

The game looks great. I mean, graphics wise. Gameplay and story wise, uggggghhhhhh.

Here comes Call of Duty, making sure they rip off every idea from every other rival game. Throw in some Black Ops II quadrotors and some Metal Gear/ Crysis mech suits with some XGRA bikes, and you got yourself a 100% unoriginal installment. Fun.

But, hey, I though Black Ops II looked stupid from its reveal trailer (and name), and it ended up being my favorite Call of Duty. So maybe I'm too quick to judge. Especially since Ghosts had the most epic trailers (Slim Shady, say what?!!??) and ended up being the worst Call of Duty.

Only time will tell, we'll see what's up come November time. Also, I did a video on this subject, so check it out in the video rotator above.

Random Post #2: Omegle fun

In case you were wondering what I do in my free time....

Fun times indeed. I'll be on Omegle from 3:30 to 5:30 PM most days. Just add "DJ Chief" to your interests. I'll be playing hot music and dancing. In a Master Chief costume.
Oh, the life I have!

Random Post #1: Ball lightning

Warning: Explicit language and random raging.

I've found it. I've done it. I found the scariest piece of evidence proving that Nature is out to get you.

Ball lightning. Oh, god. Ball lightning.

You know lightning, right? That flash of electrical hellfire streak that appears during thunder storms, incinerating trees and the occasional person? That’s pretty scary, but you know how to avoid it. Just don’t go outside during a thunderstorm. Simple.
Now, imagine that, in a spherical form. Okay, now imagine that appearing anywhere. Finally, imagine that this ball of lighting death can appear at any time, without any warning, and disappear just as fast, leaving no evidence behind but a scorched everything. With absolutely idea what causes it, how to predict it, or how to prevent it. Freaking scary, right? Imagine it: your just walking down the street, minding your business, and then bam! Ball of lighting death the size of a basketball appears and shoots through your chest like a fucking Hadouken from hell. No warning, no anything. Just came along, fucked up your shit, and just disappeared. Scientists, for all their all-knowingness, have no clue what causes this shit, or even what the hell it is. Some say it’s static electricity discharge. Others say it has something to do with the radiation of the sun. Most people think it’s just a giant ball of What The Fuck that has manifested itself in a physical form. At least this shit is rare, right? Have you seen one? No, you’re probably saying. I think I’d recognize something like that. Turns out it is fairly common. In fact, 1 in 20 Americans have seen or experienced ball lightning at one point. Probably just mistook it for like, a UFO or cloud or something. Because it being aliens is more believable then that sphere you just saw being a motherfucking lighting death ball. That’s all the proof you need to know that Nature is a fucking asshole out to kill you.

And don't even get me started on Megacryometeors....

When Titans fall....

So the Titanfall launch has come and gone, with its usual slew of issues that can be expected. By this time, most of the Xbox One hiccups have been patched (M$ really wants this game to succeed, wow.), however, PC gamers are still facing issues. Again, that's also to be expected, especially since were talking about Origin here.

[begin Origin hate rant]

See, Origin is like the ghetto, cheap version of Steam. EA, voted the most evil company on the face of the planet, wanted to break into the PC market, so they created a digital distribution system meant to rival Steam like some demented software version of Barry from Pokemon Diamond. But PC fanboys are stubborn; they need a valid reason before they make a change. Well, EA pulling almost all it's non-PopCap games off of Steam is a pretty good reason enough. So Battlefield, Need for Speed, Sims, Spore, and Mass Effect were all on Origin "only" (even though you could easily get it from GMG and such). So fans of those games (myself included), thought, hey, whatever. We're cool with that. And we all downloaded and installed Origin, hoping to get in on some of that Battlefield 3 action. And then we realized how utterly terrible the thing is. Now, overall, the program itself is pretty solid. Though it doesn't have 1/4 the features Steam has, it can launch/download games, make shortcuts. It has cloud saves and friend chat, along with an overlay system. It even has Twitch streaming, which Steam doesn't have yet. So the program is not the problem, for the most part. It's the evil corporation overseeing the program. Customer Support = non existent. Nope. Go to the forums, see all the rage. You have issues from 2011, I'm talking Battlefield 3 era issues, still not patched. They just refuse to listen to the customers. My biggest issue is the language/currency issue. They base your language off your IP, the most stupid thing ever. They think: You have a German IP? You must speak German! Well guess what, EA? I want to play my goddamn games in English, uncensored. Nope. Can't do it. Your store is in German and your currency is in Euros and it's going to stay that way. This issue was brought up in June of 2011. It's March of 2014. And can you change the language of the website/store now? Nope. Even though the forum thread started in 2011 had over 100 replies before being locked. And don't get me started on the banning issue. You say anything remotely bad about EA or to any of its forum users, and it's instant ban. Meaning you can't play the games you paid for for however the long the ban is. That screams effed up in every way. Then you have the terrible downloading speeds, the lack of multiplayer servers in certain locations, the frequent connection issues, and the fact that EA is spying on your computer, makes Origin the worst excuse of any gaming-related software ever.

I'm dead set on the belief that no game, no game, is worth dealing with Origin for. Even Battlefield and TitanFall.

[/Origin hate rant]

Now, don't get me wrong. EA makes awesome games. They really do. Titanfall is amazing on Xbox One and 360 (what I got it on), and I am a NFS/Plants vs Zombies/Peggle/Star Wars/Battlefield fan for life.

Just do us a favor.
Just publish on Steam like every other sane game publisher.

Anyway, that's all the rant for today.

Yeah, yeah, I know.

"Daily Blog" and whatnot. Whatever. It's not like I don't want to post (I really do want to), it's just I have nothing to post about, really. I guess that's just me.

I'll just start posting random gaming stuff I come across.

But not today. No, today, I will be discussing my next YouTube video. Check it out: so I got a brand new game I'm featuring. One is South Park: The Stick of Truth. Get ready for some epic laughs in that one. However, due to the nature of the content (SP fans know what I'm talking about), I'm going to release another live gameplay at the same time. What it will be on is TBD.

Nothing big releasing next week, so I probably won't cover anything... Or maybe I'll do a hardware review on the New Nvidia Titan. Fall is a long way to wait for that new Arkham Game, just saying.

So look forward to a few weeks of that...

Okay, at least 70% of the time.

Wow. Okay, so that 4-day long hiatus was not expected.

Any who, I've been recording more and more videos with other cool cats and editing like a mofo.
I've also been making a lot of channel art for my friends channel, that you can see by clicking on the links on my channel.

I'm also taking requests for channel art for free, for a limited time only.

So fire away by emailing me. (haloreach622[at]gmail[dot]com)

I'm a man of my word.

There it is, the promised footage. I played some Revenge of the Mad God with Donald (ThisGuy), Bobby (NerdConfederation/Unidin), Tristan (AudioFreeeze), and Charles (KnightOfSpain/imurgod).
It was fun stuff. Sorry about the video quality, and the fact that my mic is only heard on the left side. This was just a recording project to play around with xSplit, which I am liking a lot. Wasn't meant to be posted on YouTube.

Anyway, I just finished recording next week's episode. Cool gameplay, funny stuff.

Maybe, like, faithful 90%

Yeah, I missed yesterday. Start the raging. But seriously, as much as it doesn't seem like it, I do have a life outside of the internet.

However small that life may be.

(Very small.)

But I digress.
I'm uploading a new channel trailer as we speaketh.
And damn, is it good. Very good.
Meanwhile, I'll be doing some collabs all weekend, so expect dat. Also, I did a RotMG (google it) gameplay with like 4 other guys. Came out pretty good, just not a fit for my channel. So I'll post it here tomorrow.

Until then, it'd be great if you could subscribe to my channel on YouTube, like some of them videos, and comment to your hearts content.

Yep. I'm serious.

....When I say daily.

Because I meant what I said and I said what I meant.
And a noob is faithful, 100 percent.

#SeussOnDeezFools

Anyway. Eventually I'll start doing actually bloggy-stuff. You know, polls, giveaways, advice, ranting, play-by-plays of me hacking my college facebooks. Oh wait....

But in reality, I'm putting together a new channel trailer to use as a fanfinder. I need original content, people. So, if anyone happens to view this dead blog and see this post, and you have any gaming footage that you would like to submit, contact me now. Because I can use it. No matter the game.

Anyways. This.

Never Gonna Give You Up!

I bet you guys thought I was going to forget about you, right?

WRONG.

When I say daily blog, I mean daily blog.

That means I will post DAILY.

Or as close to it as the internet will allow.

Anyway, put up a new video, check it out at the top. It's an example of a comments video.

Fun facts:
A comments video like that takes 6 min to record and 4 hours to edit. Then 1 1/2 hours to upload.
Total: ~5 1/2 Hours.

Live gameplays take 6 min to record, an hour to edit, and 1 1/2 hours to upload.
Total: ~2 1/2 Hours.

An update takes >3 min to record and 2 hours to edit, and 1 hour to upload.
Total: ~3 Hours.

So, if Comments videos take the longest, why do I do them the most?
Because unlike the other videos, they require no voice over, meaning I can make/edit them wherever I am and whenever I want, with whatever footage I have lying around. Sure, it's a lot of editing, but I can churn them out faster than any other videos (except Minutes) because I have more opportunities to work on them.

So, expect a lot of those. Plus, they are pretty humorous.

Anyways, that's all for today.

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Hey guys...

So, long time no visit.....yeah...
The last post here was on the 18th. Of April. In 2013.

So to say I've been away a while is an incredible understatement.

But I'm back now, and for the foreseeable future. So there's that.

Now, this post is to explain some things not included in my update video above.

1.) All videos will be shot prior to Friday in native 720p. Why the downgrade? Because my previous videos were shot in 600p, or worse, 480p, then upscaled to 1080p. Needless to say, the quality was TERRIBLE. So now I'm shooting in 720p and uploading in 720p, which saves me rendering time and bandwidth. And it looks better.

2.) I'm going to be doing a lot of collabs with other YouTubers. No more solo crap. I'm hooking up with other guys to make cool videos. More on that soon.

3.) Yes, the Wheel of Fate is actually dead. No more. Not only did/do I not have the fanbase for it (yet), but it was severely limiting my enjoyment of the games. So now, it's whatever I feel like. Maybe it'll return in the future.

4.) I'm ordering a new Elgato Game Capture HD, eventually. Money doesn't grow on trees, and I kinda want a new iPod. So like, don't expect that till June.

5.) The new video types are explained in detail below.
-Gameplays: The standard 5-10 minute gameplay with live commentary. Usually fresh, new games.
-Comments: Like the video above, it's pre-recorded footage with no commentary, but has pop-ups inspired by YouTube comments.
-Updates: News about my channel or the Gaming world. Usually edited Vegas videos.
-Minutes: Small side projects I'll put out. Always under 2 minutes.
Also, every once in a while I'll do a special video or a collab that falls out of these categories.

Now about this blog. This will just be a place for me to post my thoughts (like every other blog). And to promote my videos and other cool stuff. So do me a favor. Press CTRL-D.

Thanks, and keep on pwning and owning.
